<Summary>
The 24th ASEAN Summit will be held this 2015 in Myanmar.Leaders of the member nations of this organization are preparing for the upcoming summit regardless of the political and economic turmoil. They are positive enough to fulfill the commitments set before the summit.Their main agenda on that summit is to achieve the ASEAN Economic Cooperation(AEC) which aims to create a single market and production base that allows free movement of goods, services, investments and skilled labor. According to ASEAN Secretariat almost 80 percent of all action lines towards the AEC have been completed. Regardless of the progress still there were reports that because of the economic and political challenges that they are facing, it is dimmed to achieve the AEC this 2015.
<Opinion>
Being part of the ASEAN is good but we have to create the condition first before we could compete with other countries.There are still several requirements for us to push through before we could commit to it. The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines is protective to the economy. How could we attain a free flow of goods and services if not to changed and revised the constitution. The government should consult the majority of its population before going with that big decision or they have to analyze first if we are really capable at this time to compete with other countries of ASEAN. If not being studied thoroughly we might only be consumers of their goods and services.
