ASEAN is gearing up towards the ASEAN Economic Integration by 2015. President Benigno Aquino stress out the importance of regional security cooperation. In his speech during the 34th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Chiefs of Police (Aseanapol) Conference held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza he pointed out that the regional police across the borders will be strengthen through the enhanced cooperation. Wherein it could stop criminals in attempting to evade justice across the borders.The Interpol and the Aseanapol could exchange databases. By this. it could speed up the exchange of information in identifying stolen vehicles,rescuing missing persons, apprehending wanted criminals and neutralizing terrorist elements.Aside from targeting for zero tariffs in trade aspects ASEAN is eyeing for a fully integrated regional economy by 2015 which includes the improvements in infrastructure, intellectual property rights (IPR) protection, Customs automation and modernization, addressing red tape and other forms of corruption, streamlining business procedures and implementing a competition policy.
<Opinion>
ASEAN member countries are strengthening its cooperation not only in terms of the economic aspects but also for the enhanced security cooperation. Hope this could not curtail the freedom of expression of the people and the country. They have also to respect the integrity and the sovereignty of each country. There are still many issues that the Philippine government should discuss before they could fully signed the agreement inside the AEC because not all of the contents are favorable to the people, the economy of our country. They must therefore hold forums, consultations, discussions of this issue to widened their perspective of what would be the possible implications to the people.Usually in terms of agreement like this, only those advance countries will be benefitted from it and we will only be consumers and robots that always follows of what they wanted.
